2018 - Moving Mary

One of Mary's favorite items in the garden was a statue of the Greek woman reading a book.  She had carried a photo of her around for a long time before we were able to get a pad poured for her and get her installed.  When we sold the house and moved our household goods to Las Vegas, she went along.

However, not long after relocating to Vegas we decided that we would be traveling for a long time and we should get rid of most of the rest of our household goods.  However, Mary really hated to get rid of the statue but really had no use for it.  Fortunately, our good friends, Jim and Phyllis Bratt, have a lovely garden...these are photos of their garden.

And even better, they agreed to foster the statue for us.  So we hired some friends to help load her into the van (she is made of poured concrete and weighs a ton) and drove her back up to Walnut Creek, California (she is a well traveled lady).  When we got there Jim and their two sons, Rhett and Sean, and a boyfriend of one of their granddaughters, were there to greet us.  It took all of them to haul her into the garden and up onto the terrace where she has a new home.

Jim picked a really great spot for her and she is very much a new focal point of the garden.  They named her Mary, after Mary.

Now Mary can visit Mary any time we go to visit the Bratts.
