2017 and 2018 - Spring Daffodils and Fall color on our outside slopes

Our massive downhill slopes around two sides of the lot have always been a challenge.  But over the years more trees and shrubs were planted, the Monterey pines got bigger and their needles created a carpet on the ground...helping to minimize the weeds.

The Moraga Garden Club has, for years, planted daffodils all around the open roadways in town.  Our house is the first one in the neighborhood and it has a massive slope...so it seemed logical that we should carpet it with daffodils to make it more interesting in the spring.  Over the five or six years prior to selling we (actually our gardener's...Mary just bought the bulbs) planted daffodil bulbs along the exterior slopes.  Every year Mary would pick out a few hundred bulbs, usually of the same four or five types.  So each year the sunny, yellow daffodil display got bigger and bigger.  By now there were are a couple of thousand bulbs along these slopes.

Several types of daffodils were selected so that we would get a long blooming season...early, mid and late blooming bulbs.  They are a cheery welcome to people coming into our neighborhood.

Some of these photos were taken after a light dusting of snow we had in March, 2018, just a few weeks before we went on the market.

In recent years we have also put in additional plantings on the front and side slopes that would give us blazes of fall colors.  And this year they were beautiful.
